So, yesterday I go to get my hair cut. As I'm sitting there watching in awe as Rebecca works her magic on my hair. ( She uses scissors and a flatiron like Michelangelo used paints and a ceiling.) Anyway, I ask how she's doing and what's going on with her. (I was subtle, but I was curious...ok, borderline frantic, because she had cut back on her hours which happen to totally blow Holland's Mother's Day Out schedule.)
She said she is going back to school. What?! She said she wanted to finish her associates degree in business. As the panic began to make it's way up my throat, I calmly asked if she wanted to work in management for the company, but still cut hair, manely my hair. (please yes, please say yes) She said no, that she couldn't see herself doing the same thing in 20 years. I almost passed out. People, I totally expected her to be doing my funeral hair when I died.
The only bright spot is that she said it will take her about 2 years to finish the school, and she's going to keep cutting hair while she finishes. (a thread of hope) So, I figure I got 2 years to find a way to afford to hire her to be my personal hairstylist.
Let's face it, I can't afford not to.

The Red Raiders
Well, basketball season has officially begun. Grey had his first game on Saturday. It's a little different than last year. He plays at the same church, but the church has changed from the Upwards program to Team Sports. One of the changes that results from the switch is the division of the teams. Upwards divides up by grades, and Team Sports divides up by age. Grey turned 8 four days before the cutoff, so he is in the 8-9 yr old group. Since his birthday was so close to the cutoff, they gave him a choice. He could play in the 6-7 yr olds or the 8-9 yr olds. As his Mama, I pushed for the 6-7 age group......Don't give me that, I'm his mother, I don't want him to get run over by the bigger kids. Grey, however, said "I want the challenge " and opted to stay in the 8-9 yr old. After I quit crying, I called Mac and let him try to persuade him, to no avail.
So he is in the 8-9 yrold age group (sniff, sniff) on The Red Raiders team. He is doing great. He has stepped up his game and is learning so much more from this age group and from his coaches. In practice, they have been working with him as point guard, and he really seems to be made for that position. And not once have I run out to tie his shoe during practice because as Mac says, " that's just not cool."
For the record: The Red Raiders won their first game, 34-22 with Grey scoring the first basket.

It All Started With A Flyer
Two of Mac's favorite things are free Chik-Fil-A meals and dressing up like Elvis. Who knew that the two would marry on a cold, January, Saturday night? Mac was in chicken sandwich heaven. Here is the flyer that made it all possible......

That's the owner on the left, Mac, and the manager on the right.
Mr. Jesse Aron, the Elvis impersonator. He was awesome! Mac and others would request songs and he sang them all, especially Mac's favorite, "American Trilogy". He sounded JUST LIKE ELVIS! Apparently he is one of the top 3 impersonators in the country. His "look" was more of the "later years " Elvis, but his sound covered all of Elvis' career. We had a lot of fun! There is just something about Elvis. Several women asked Mac to take their picture with them . Seriously.

Views From The Sofa
Ahhh I remember that last post I wrote. I was feeling pretty skippy. Then came the next day when my voice changed to this sexy, sultry, Lauren Bacall voice.........ok, it was more like a 30- year- chain-smoker. Then I started the coughing. I tried to treat the symptoms with denial, because I was done with sickness. But denial did not work and after a couple of nights of coughing up portions of my lungs, I opted to visit the doctor. She prescribed a nice antibiotic, (God bless the marriage of generic drugs and insurance.) and gave me some samples to clear up everything else associated with my new companion, bronchitis. I love free samples even more than I love $10 copays.
So, anyway I'm again on the road to being well, assuming I don't get stopped by strep throat on the way. I'm sure its just waiting around the corner to ambush me, apparently I make interesting prey for contagious illnesses.

TAMIFLU FOR PRESIDENT
Last week about this time I was in bed, curled up in the fetal position, freezing cold, but burning up with fever, aching all over and waiting for Mac to roll in from Mississippi so he could get me an Advil. It was a lot easier to wait another 3 hours for him to get home than actually move my body to get it myself. I was pretty pathetic. But I made it to the doctor the next day in time to get Tamiflu. (If you wait too long, the Tamiflu doesn't help. ) And so I was back to 100% normal.....well, 100% me, anyway by Thursday.
Fear not, I will be bringing you some fresh posts soon.

LOSE 3-5 lbs IN JUST 3 DAYS!
OH people, I have found this new diet and you can lose 3-5 lbs in just 3 days! It worked for me!
It's called the flu diet. It's really simple. You catch the virus, and it does all the work! Just look at how great it works:
1. You get all the aches and pains, without having to exercise.
2. While you sleep, the aspirin breaks the fever and you wake up in a clammy sweat without even having to get out of bed. All kinds of calories are being sweated off.
3. It's a great appetite suppressant because the thought of food repels you.
4. You don't have to keep the house clean, because nobody wants to visit you with the flu.
5. You have an excuse to stay up and watch late night movies. Of course, with your head pounding so bad, you can't really enjoy it.
6. You get to shop....for Tamiflu and ibuprofen, that is.
7. It's a great time to catch up with your family doctor.
8. When you sit down to wait for your prescription, people get out of their seats to give you room for your purse. And if you cough, you get the whole row of seats.
9. You get to spend more time and money on the dr's visit and prescriptions than if you just got the flu shot.
10. It's easy to catch. I like to find my strand of the flu in the mall, children's play areas, or the gym.
11. Its a gift that keeps on giving.
So if you would like to lose 3-5lbs in the most miserable way, try this diet. If not, get your flu shot!

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, people! We had a wild and crazy New Year's! And by "wild and crazy", I mean we donned hats, blew horns and had a snap-pop war followed by a Sparkler Dance-Off. There is still a dispute over who won the war and the dance-off. Then Holland went to bed at 9:30, Grey fell asleep on the sofa at 10:00, and I rang in the New Year...with the East Coast. I think Mac is the only one who actually stayed up for the central standard time zone cross into 2008. People, we were out of control.
Holland grew weary of the whole New Year's festivities early on. She declared that the New Year's party was over at 8:00. (Our day at the zoo wore her out.)

The Winter Dance Recital
Holland's Winter Dance Recital was a couple of weeks ago. However, due to a prior flower girl engagement, she had to miss the recital. Her dance instructor, whom we all love, had the girls have a dress rehearsal the class before we left town. That way I could videotape it. Ms. Stacey is the best!
And I'm working on getting the video on the blog.

The Toy Purge of 2007
It is time for the Great Toy Purge of 2007, and I have to say it rivaled the Toy Purge of 2006. And 99% of the purge came from the game room closet. You'll recall how that closet used to look. I know several of you would have not been able to sleep knowing that they had closet like that in their home. I assure you, I have slept like a baby, unfazed by the chaos and danger that was behind that door. But we knew that there was no way it would be able to absorb all the new Christmas and birthday gifts, so a purge was necessary. So basically, we tied a rope around my ankle so if I didn't come back out after a couple of weeks, Mac and/or the Fire Department would be able to pull my lifeless body out. But I made it out alive, with 6 LARGE bags of toys to be donated and 4 large bags that went straight to the street for garbage pickup. So sleep well, our closet has been restored, and we are really quite proud.
Please hold your applause until the end of the post.

Oh, The Merriment!
Well, I hope everyone's Christmas was merry and bright. Ours certainly was. I know you are looking for meaningful Christmas morning pictures with lots of hugs, tears of joy, and all kinds of merriment. Sorry to disappoint you, but I did not take a single picture Christmas Day. I believe that could be some sort of blogger violation. However, we did take some video of the event, getting the kids out of bed, their initial reaction to Santa's presents, etc. Then Mac and I spent the next 3 hours putting presents together. Our den looked like the assembly line at the Mattel Toy Factory. Apparently, Santa decided not to put anything together the night before. Mac said he is going to file a complaint with the North Pole. Then after all that, we had to set up the electronics portion of Christmas. That's a lot of manual labor and detailed reading so early in the morning.
However, since I know some of you need actual pictures (BB), instead of my vivid descriptions, which might hurt my feelings just a bit, except for the fact that when I look at other blogs, I'm all about the photos, too. So I took a picture of the kids (about 20 minutes ago)with their favorite present from Santa.
Grey and his Wii. Now the big draw to the Wii is that the kid has to actually get up off their duff and actually interact with the games. Bowling requires the player to actually simulate the bowling motion with their body and so on with all the games. Now when I heard this, I had my "seriously doubt that" eyebrow raised. Exercise via a video game? Come on, now. However, Grey came down after playing, with his cheeks all red and sweating like he ran the 100 yard dash. And the day after Christmas, Mac was complaining of upper back and shoulder soreness, and Grey was complaing about his back. Turns out they had been playing the Boxing game. So, there may be some validity to the whole Wii/exercise thing. We shall see.
Holland and her Glitter Suite Dollhouse. That's Cinderella asleep on the kitchen floor. Ballerina Barbie is resting, fully clothed, in the bathtub. Hanna Montana, lucky girl, got the bed on the 2nd floor and corvette Barbie got the chaise lounge on the 3rd floor under the disco ball and with the view of the palm tree. This house and the Leapster tied for favorite presents from Santa.
