Sock Hop Day

Holland told me about 50's Sock Hop Day at her school 3 weeks ago. She kept her enthusiasm for the day the entire 3 weeks. So ,she was ready to sing and dance when the day finally arrived.

You'll notice that Grey is visibly absent from the photo. He had no desire to dress up. However, I found out later that even though he didn't want to participate in the sock hop festivities he did make the finals in the hula hoop contest. Yeah, how cool are you now?

Happy Birthday!

I had myself a great birthday this year, even though I am rapidly approaching 40. Oh well, I'm younger than Chris and Hank.
I'll always have that to hold onto.Grey made me a birthday gift and wrapped it himself......in an old basketball jersey. At least, he didn't use up the tape doing it.

He made a Sprite robot bank. It only holds dimes and pennies which works just fine for me.
It's really creative, and I love it!

My baby and me.

The youngun's.
(I'm including myself in that category.)
Thanks for all the birthday calls, wishes, cards, and gifts! You know who you are.

Halloween 2010

Halloween 2010 was yet again another successful year, successful in the mass accumulation of chocolate and teeth-rotting candy. Life is good.
Here are pictures of the costume selections:Grey was a midget gangsta ridin' an ostrich......bless his heart.

Words fail me.

Holland was a Teal Ninja.

She refused to carry a weapon. She used her charm and blue eyes to disarm her enemies.

Move over, Ralph Macchio. There's a new Karate kid in town.

Holland trick or treated with her best friend, Tiffany, who happens to be severely allergic to peanut butter, so guess who got extra Reese's peanut butter cups?
One happy Davis household.

Happy Birthday, Grey!

First, I would like to give a shout out to Christopher Columbus since he and Grey shared October 11th this year. So, thanks Chris for the discovery and the day off from school. Historical figures rock!
HAPPY 11TH BIRTHDAY, GREY!
I actually ordered the cookie cake before Saturday's game. Had I known the outcome of that game, I would still have ordered it, but with a smile in my heart.

Those are sparkler candles in the shape of the number 11. Very smoky, but cool.

We had "Grey Day" on Sunday. We took him and his friend, Blake, to The Kemah Boardwalk for the day.

They rode rides over and over and over and over........
Frankly, I don't know how they kept their lunch down.

Holland said she didn't like this ride, even though this is her 2nd round.

She got rowdy. Steps were taken.

Chillin' in the awesome weather

Grey and Blake on The Inverter. They were completely upside down.

I like the slight look of panic/fear on Mac's face.

Grey had to ride the birthday broom at Joe's Crab Shack.

Ridin' the train. Easy and Relaxing.

I loathe/hate/despise/havemajorphobiaof ferris wheels and yet, here I am sitting on one. A clear example of peer pressure, plus it was a small ferris wheel.
(Yeah, I changed shirts. I opened a Coke Zero and was soon wearing the contents of that can.)

Grey had a great day and hopefully didn't suffer any brain damage from riding the Bullet 9 times.
WE LOVE YOU!!

Technical Difficulties Resolved

I am back, I promise. I had some technical difficulties with old faithful here. The other week I was busy working away on the laptop, (read: I was daydreaming and most likely trying to figure out what to eat for dinner.) when Bandito, our kitten, leaped onto the keyboard. Apparently, the force of the 3lbs sent my cursor to the graveyard. (If Texas had jumped on it with his 17lbs, I think the laptop woulod have exploded and the desk would have collapsed, so I'm grateful such was not the case.) Anyway, I got it working again (read: jury-rigged). We are back in business, folks and will be putting out new posts real soon. So, thanks to all who have held on during these various hiatuses. I appreciate both of you.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Feel free to give up the "youthful and pretty" genes and pass them down.
I'll be waiting........

First Day of School, 2010-2011

It's baaaaaaack!
School has officially begun. In fact, we are currently into Day 2 of 2nd grade for Holly-Bear and 5th grade for Grey.
Holland got a soft-spoken, sweet teacher, just what she needs. Grey got the 3 tough, no nonsense teachers. (just what he needs) I've heard his teachers are really good at preparing them for middle school. So, hopefully he won't be shell-shocked when he hits 6th grade next year.

Surprisingly, I'm kind of sad to see the summer end. We had a good thing going. They stayed busy most of June and July and kind of took it easy in August. They slept in, ate a late breakfast and hung out a lot in their pajamas. If Grey was dressed before 2:00, I had to ask him,"what's the occasion?" But those last days of slothfulness are over. It was good while it lasted.....

(I never had a teacher that wore flip flops. How great is that?)

At Which Point Did We Lose Our Minds?

I'm not sure when our "no, we are most definitely NOT getting another cat" turned into "look, we got a new kitten", but somewhere in between we were brainwashed, drank the koolaid, and/or got suckered into adopting a new kitten. I think Mac is still scratching his head on how this could have happened on his watch.

Anywhere, this is where we are.

Introducing Bandit.

(That's the name he came with and I think we are sticking with it, but don't hold me to that.)He's a black and white Tuxedo cat that got real lucky the day the kid underneath him saw him for the first time.

He's a sweet, playful kitten.

He's so small and had so much black on him that we had to put a bell on him so we could keep up with him.

Texas is unimpressed with his brother from another mother.

He gives him an obligatory hiss and then moves on.

He checks out Barbie's digs.

Unfortunately, within 3 days of his arrival Bandit fell from the second floor through the railing down to the tile in the foyer. (Texas has an alibi.) He landed on his feet and was unhurt. But I'm afraid he's down 1 of his 9 lives.

Yeah, he's a keeper.
