The Whole Tooth And Nothing But The Tooth

Some days I come up with clever titles for my posts, and then some days I come up with ones like the one above. Let me take a moment to extend my apologies.
Now on with the post.

So, today was preschool for Holland and though I work the morning shift of an exclusive carpool, (ok, only 2 of us moms wanted to be in it, but I like the way "exclusive" flowed in the sentence.) I wanted to pick her up this afternoon myself. So, when I get there, her teachers tell me she lost a tooth. This would be her first tooth which is still one of those great milestones we get real excited over. She was so proud and happy. I have to say teeth are a lot more pleasant coming out than coming in.
The tooth is somewhere in that cute little hand. And wouldn't you know it, this week she's studying the letter "T". Is she dedicated to her education or what?

The new tooth is already coming in. It is just behind where the baby tooth came out. Better go ahead and start the orthodontist fund now.

Though rising fuel costs and a potential economic recession weigh heavy on her mind, she is hopeful for a good return from the tooth fairy on her investment.

The New Suit

In Mac's job, he does have several occasions when he has to dress up. In other words, he has to wear a suit. Fortunately, that is not very often since we live in such a hot and humid city.

But he does have a special occasion coming up. One of his furniture dealers has asked him to be in a commercial for his store. Naturally, Mac agreed.

However, we both decided, that he should invest in a new suit for the commercial. I mean the city he's filming in has a population of around 60,000, and he wants to look his best.

I wanted to show just how handsome he looks in his new suit.

Oh, did I forget to mention that his new suit is an Elvis suit and that Mac is going to be Elvis in the commercial? 'Cause he is and he couldn't be any more excited about it. People, we are about 1 gig away from business cards...

I know what you're thinking....you're gonna need to see that commercial. I'll see what I can do...

Saturday

The Davis 4 headed out to our Town Center park where there was an Easter extravaganza going on. There was a little egg-hunting, moonwalks, food, karaoke, a petting zoo/hepatitis breeding ground, and all kinds of booths selling stuff, even rabbits. Naturally, we found ourselves drawn to the karaoke platform where we ran into our good friends, Frank and Jessica and the triplets. Let me warn you before you look at the picture, the triplets have only gotten more adorable!

Then we had to break the party up, because it was naptime for them, and Holland saw a bug and went into bug terror mode. Of course it didn't help that Grey kept showing her where an ant bit his finger and telling her how the ant had devoured his finger. I sure am glad school resumes next week.

First Rule of Being A Kid....Never Say "I'm bored..."

"Oh you're bored, are you? Let me find something for you to do.....how about pulling weeds?"

Before you start googling the phone number for CPS, this is actually a paying gig. Mac told Grey he would pay him if he did a good job pulling the weeds. A couple of times I checked up on him, and he had some neighbor kids helping him...for free.

The Wyoming Camping Trip

We had such a good time on our Wyoming camping trip. Our trail guides Cookie, (who took the photos) and Doc (pictured below) cooked out for us and set up a marshmallow toasting for us on Saturday night. We had a lot of fun and nobody burned their eyebrows off.

Oh, alright we were actually cooking out with our good friends, Pat and Gary at their house which is only about a mile from our house. It sounded so much better to say we were toasting marshallows on a camping trip in Wyoming than we were toasting marshmallows in Houston in 88 degree weather.

Pet or Person

Easter Party

Today, Holland had her Easter party at Pre-K, which included an Easter Egg Hunt which is pretty standard for an Easter Party. The hunt confirms what we pretty much already knew, Holland does not have a competitive bone in her body. When the teacher said, "go", kids went everywhere, snatching up eggs right and left. Holland kind of glided around waiting for the eggs to jump into her basket. My friend, Liz, Grey (who was out of school sick), Holland's good friend, Faith, and myself kept pointing eggs out to her. Even with all our help, the child came away with only 4 eggs, 1 Faith gave to her from her basket. A pity egg, if you will. But, honestly, she was just fine with her 4 eggs.

You can see Faith did quite well in the hunt. Holland's 4 eggs aren't even visible. However, in the spirit of keeping everything equal, the teachers redistributed the eggs, so each child got about 10 each. Enjoy it now, kiddos, cause life doesn't work that way.

Who cares about hunting Easter eggs when you're this cute.

Check "Paint" Off The List...

So, we finally decided on a paint color. Though Winter Delta looked like she might be the one, she turned out to be too dark and brooding. So, we opted for her more light-hearted sister, Lyndhurst Mushroom. There is no shame in that. I mean we loved Winter Delta, we just weren't in love with her.
So, Mac and I painted the living room ourselves. We were originally going to hire someone to paint it, but we decided we could do it ourselves. I mean how hard could it be? That was before I was introduced to painting curved, textured walls. Was that the best decision? I'll let you know, if I ever stop doing "touchups".
During our painting weekend, Holland serenaded us from the kitchen table, then from the landing on the stairs where the acoustics were much better. She sang us a blend of "We are the champions.." with songs about Jesus' love. At one point, Mac looked at me and said, " Should she really mix Freddie Mercury and songs about Jesus? To that I said, " Freddie needed Jesus, too." And Mac agreed I had a point. Then I began to wonder just how long we had been inhaling paint fumes and would the damage be permanent.
And finally we finished....
Check "paint the living room" off the home improvement list. Alright now, this picture was from when we moved in a little over 2 years ago. (Back when "get furniture for the living room" was at the top of the list.) This is all the furniture we had in here for a little while. Plus, this was the best pic I could find to show the original color, ok, ok it was the first pic I found, and I didn't feel like looking for a more recent pic. Cut me some slack, I have spent many hours painting, and I am tired.

Hello, Lyndhurst Mushroom. Welcome to the Davis house.
(The gap between our tv and the entertainment center is barely noticeable, don't you think?)

This color really warms us the room.....
Oh, man, now we need window treatments. sigh. Let me go put that on the list.

Since I already had all the painting paraphernalia out, I went ahead and painted Holland's room. (This pic is also from when we first moved in.)

When the sunlight comes in, the room actually glows pink.

After all the work, Holland told me she just wanted a white room. I was too tired to cry.
(She loves it now.)

Rodeo Days Are Here

The Houston Rodeo has begun. So, today was Go Texan Day at Preschool for Holland. Yee haw.

Holland's cowboy hat is a couple quarts shy of a 10 gallon.

When Did Heaven Open Up And Drop This Down?

So, I'm in Starbucks last week, and I found the most wonderful thing. It's a Tall Skinny Caramel Mocha. Now, any beverage, hot or cold, that begins with the words, "tall" and "skinny" should be given a chance, on principle alone. And I did try it. And let me just say to my new love, Tall Skinny Caramel Mocha....you had me at hello......you had me at hello.

Rockets Vs The Bulls

As a part of Grey's basketball season, 2nd Baptist had "Rockets Night". We got discounted tickets. Since the whole family went, we opted for the most discounted tickets yes, they were the cheap seats. Basically we sat in the rafters with the banners. After the game, we got the opportunity to go on the Rockets court and shoot a free throw. We had so much fun! I think Grey and Holland liked it, too.

Grey compares his wingspan to Yao Ming's.

Holland is unimpressed with Yao Ming. I mean, really, he doesn't dance or sing or do anything she likes.

Grey tests his reflexes.

The love of popcorn can make any event fun and tasty.

A nice view of the court.......with my zoom lens.

A more realistic view of the court from our seats.

Grey's free throw shot on the court after the game. Lots of suited up security guys.

My free throw shot. It almost went in. Look at the security guys' faces; they're thinking it might go in. I believe I owe my almost free throw basket to the previous Friday when our playgroup met at Chuck E Cheese and my friend Liz and I played the basketball game until our arms were numb.

Mac's shot rung in, but then rung out. So close.
Holland is once again unimpressed with this special moment.

Picture Day

Today was picture day at Holland's PreK. So, we took some warm up shots to get her in the mood. I wish we had done that for Grey because his class picture is well....pretty awful. He said the photographer took it before he was ready, although the 19 other kids and teacher were ready. I'd post it, but Grey would get mad. It's punishment enought that it will go in the annual. Lesson learned for next year: Pay attention. Every picture must be a dramatic pose.

She wanted to turn the camera on me. I tried to give my best "Holland Pose". Yeah, it's much cuter on her.
